James J. O'Brien is founder of O'Brien Law LLC and head of the firm's Business Immigration practice. Mr. O'Brien is also an accomplished counselor to business management with respect to all areas of the employment relationship, from hiring and employment agreements, through employment policies, performance review and employee discipline, to termination and severance agreements. He represents national and international clients in the area of business immigration, which includes establishing corporate visa programs, accomplishing the transfer of executive, managerial and professional personnel to the United States with employment-authorized nonimmigrant status, as well as securing U.S. permanent residence and citizenship status. Mr. O'Brien also possesses wide experience with respect to the defense of employment discrimination complaints, employment litigation, wage and hour audits by the Department of Labor, I-9 audits by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and counseling on employment laws and procedures.

Mr. O'Brien presents both webinars and seminars on business immigration issues from the human resources perspective, including such topics as viable business immigration sponsorships (both temporary and permanent residence), I-9 compliance, and emerging trends in government enforcement. He has been a featured speaker for conferences held by various industry associations, including the American Hotel and Motel Association, the American Institute of Architects, the National Restaurant Association and the National Technical Services Association.

Mr. O'Brien holds a Juris Doctor degree from the The Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He is a member of the Bar of the Court of Appeals of the District of Columbia, the Court of Appeals of Maryland and the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. Mr. O'Brien is also a member of the American Bar Association, including the ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law, and a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

As a community service, Mr. O'Brien dedicates volunteer services as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Christian Relief Services Charities, Inc., a nonprofit organization serving the charitable needs of Native Americans, domestic and international relief, and housing for low income Americans, through its programs Running Strong for American Indian YouthBread & Water for Africa, and Americans Helping Americans.
